Difensil immuno reduces recurrence and severity of tonsillitis in children: A randomized controlled trial
2020
Oral supplements (OS) support the immune system in fighting upper airways infection. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Difensil Immuno (DI) on the recurrence of tonsillitis and fever in children. A multicentric randomized clinical trial was conducted. One-hundred and twenty children with chronic tonsillitis were randomly assigned to group A, B or control. Patients in group A were treated with 10 mL of DI for 90 consecutive days, patients in group B underwent treatment with 15 mL of DI for 45 consecutive days. The following data were collected at baseline (T0), T1 and T2: tonsillitis and fever episodes, tonsillar volume, blood test results. One-way ANOVA was used to analyze within an…
Can Cold Water Immersion Enhance Recovery in Elite Olympic Weightlifters? An Individualized Perspective.
2017
We investigated whether cold water immersion (CWI) after intensive training sessions can enhance recovery in elite Olympic weightlifters, taking into account each athlete's individual response pattern. The entire German male Olympic weightlifting national team participated in the study (n = 7), ensuring collection of data from elite athletes only. Using a randomized cross-over design, the athletes went through 2 high-intensity training microcycles consisting of 5 training sessions that were either followed by a CWI or passive recovery. Barbell speed in a snatch pull movement, blood parameters, and subjective ratings of general fatigue and recovery were assessed throughout the study. Physica…
Relationship Between Surgical Difficulty of Third Molar Extraction Under Local Anesthesia and the Postoperative Evolution of Clinical and Blood Param…
2019
To determine whether the Pederson scale is a good predictor of the surgical difficulty of third molar extraction and establish whether such surgical difficulty is directly related to the postoperative course as assessed from clinical (pain, inflammation, and trismus) and blood (C-reactive protein, interleukin-6 [IL-6], and fibrinogen) parameters.A prospective observational study was conducted of 2 groups of patients who underwent simple or surgical third molar extraction under local anesthesia. Clinical and blood parameters and possible complications were recorded for 1 week after extraction.A total of 118 patients were studied. Surgical difficulty as predicted by the Pederson scale showed …
Effects of different circuit training protocols on body mass, fat mass and blood parameters in overweight adults
2017
Benefits of exercise are known for a long time, but mechanisms underlying the exercise mode recommendations for specific chronic cardiovascular diseases remain unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of different circuit training protocols in order to determine which is the best for weight loss and for specific overweight- related disorders. Forty-five female sedentary overweight participants from 20 to 50 years (average 31.8±11.2) were enrolled and assigned to three different groups; each group was compared with a control normal-weight group. Three different circuit protocols were randomly assigned to each overweight group: aerobictone- aerobic (ATA), aerobic-circuit-aero…
Analysis of body composition and blood parameters on 20 subjects after 6 months of training with SuperJump
2014
The “Jill Cooper’s aerobic accellerator system” uses high quality rebound, modified to increase the acceleration, create a more accommodating work surface, greater stability and cushioning to protect joints. Thanks to the three forces of acceleration, deceleration, and the force of gravity, for each jump, the one-way valves of the lymphatic pathways open and close pushing the lymph towards the next “closed”. This action allows the lymphatic system to make a full turn faster than usual. We investigate the effects of 6 months of training on 20 subjects (age: 37 ± 19; weight: 74 ± 19 Kg; height:164,5 ± 13,5 cm; BMI: 28,13 ± 6,876 Kg/m2; % body fat: 26 ± 14,7 Kg). Antropometric parameters were …

Does the site of blood collection and sex of crucian carp (Carassius carassius) affect hematological and blood biochemical results?
2023
Blood analysis is used to evaluate the effects of various environmental factors on fishes and to assess fish health and welfare. Fish blood is routinely sampled from the caudal vein or the heart. The aim of the present study was to determine the differences between venous and cardiac crucian carp (Carassius carassius (L.)) blood parameters. Additionally, the influence of sex was tested. The fish were divided into two groups: group I consisted of 10 males and 9 females, group II consisted of 8 males and 8 females. The fish from group I had blood sampled first from the caudal vein and then from the heart. The fish from group II had the procedures in the opposite order. The hematological param…
Sodium thiosulfate not always resolves calciphylaxis: an ambiguous response
2011
Calciphylaxis is a severe “vascular ossification–calcification,” associated with a very high mortality rate that involvesarterial wall, venular wall, and nerves resulting in ischemia and necrosis of skin, subcutaneous fat, visceral organs, and skeletal muscles. Sodium thiosulfate has recently been used as a novel treatment option for calciphylaxisbecause of its dual role as an antioxidant and a chelator. Multiple case reports demonstrated that such therapy hasresulted in pain relief and healing of skin ulceration. We report a case of calciphylaxis of large severity that had anambiguous response to sodium thiosulfate treatment (improvement of symptomatology and skin lesions, improve-ment of b…
